Week three: done! It’s kind of crazy to think that it’s all gonna be over in a week! I’ve been making some awesome progress this week, especially compared to my previous years of Nano participation. I’m usually right on track, give or take a thousand words throughout the month, and I come in at 50k within the last two days or so. Now, I’m about to hit 50k with a week to spare, and I hope that means I can hammer out another 10-20k over that time!
Total as of late last night: 49,111 words
I’ve had a crazy schedule the last couple days, though, so I haven’t touched my novel in a few days (soooo frustrating!) but I’m still hoping to make a good push this last week and achieve at least my 60k goal. (This is also why this post is going up now instead of 2 days ago. Crazy schedule!)
This year, I’m thankful for… Write-ins!
I’m so glad I had a friend suggest going to the write-ins this year. I never felt the need to go before, and the scheduling was always a bit of a problem, but I really have enjoyed my time with the other wrimos in the area. It is a bit inconvenient to go some days (and a little expensive traveling the extra miles to get there), but it has been helpful. I’ve become more aware of how much I can write in a given period of time, and having other people working hard is a great motivator to keep me working on my story.
I wanted to go to at least one write-in over the weekend, but it means going to a new place that’s 30 (or more) minutes out of my way, and the way my schedule worked out, and with the impending holiday, I don’t think it’s gonna happen.
The book
I finally got to a really good scene this week – the kind of scene I had in mind when I first came up with this story idea. It pushed me ahead of the curve so much that I almost had a 6k word day the other day! I’ve spent so much time focusing on the background and building up to the main goals in the story that I haven’t actually had that many really fun scenes to write. With this last good scene, I’m hoping I can have many more to come in the next, final week!
I still haven’t entirely worked out how to get to the climax, but at this point in the month, all bets are off – I tend to pants it the rest of the way, maybe or maybe not arriving at the ending I planned when I first started. However, I do like the ending I came up with in my outlining stages. It’s cliff-hanger-y :D
In other non-Nano news
It’s Hunger Games premiere weekend! I went out Friday morning and caught the early bird price. It’s a little ridiculous how good that movie was. Not the best one I’ve seen this year, nor my favorite, but it was a LOT of fun! I have not read the books, but I do prefer seeing the movies before I read the books so I don’t get mad at the moviemakers for ruining the book. I can enjoy the movie first, and then still enjoy the book after.
Other than that, Nano has left me with quite a terrifying pile of laundry to do – which is going to take me forever – and I still need to shop for Thanksgiving. Still, it would be awesome if I could crush my word count a little more over what’s left of the weekend!
