A few days ago, I felt like I had not gotten nearly so much done in February as I had originally planned, but now, I see that I got a TON of stuff done, it just wasn’t all in the original plan! And you know what? That’s OK.
Reading Challenges
Well, I got more books read than I expected. Three books finished and three new reviews just since last time! I can only count two toward my challenges, as the third was neither ebook nor on my TBR list for any extended period of time. Still, progress is progress.
The Dark Huntsman by Jessica Aspen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The last fantasy romance I read (Wind and Shadow) was not for me. This was MUCH more my speed! It has a good mix of fantasy and romance, and the fantasy elements were explained much better and at appropriate times, so it was easier to follow and enjoy the magical and supernatural parts of the story. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Well, I was right: same narrator for all three audiobook versions. However, I think she’s improved a bit since book one, so that’s all right. [Read the review on Goodreads]
The Geek’s Guide to Dating by Eric Smith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book for free through the Goodreads First Reads program.
I was very surprised to win this, as I have no other books like this on my shelves, but it was the first one I had won in a giveaway on Goodreads, so I was super excited to read it. I wasn’t really interested in reading it for dating advice, but it sounded sort of fun. As it turned out, I had a hard time putting it down and read it pretty quickly. However, it should be noted that it is a quick read, only 200 pages or so, and there are plenty of section breaks and graphics which cut into the words to a page ratio. [Finish reading on Goodreads]
Editing
My goal was to send my edit-in-progress back out for a second round of beta-reading by the end of the month, and I did. Twice. Mission accomplished.
I’m glad to be done with it for the moment, though it still weighs heavily as I think about how I will fix things when I do get back to it. I expect that to fade it a few days. It’s still too fresh, but the more time away from it I have, the more I’ll forget about it and maybe when I do get back to it, something better will come to me. I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
Writing
I’ve still been too busy catching up on my reading and blogging to think too much about starting something new, but little flashes keep coming, and after a while, they will insist on being put down in words. I wonder if I’m using my books and my blogs to procrastinate writing, and I may well be, because I’m not sure where to start if I wanted to jump into something new, but I’ll get to it. Still, I will worry about the writing and the not-procrastinating when the time comes.
I hope I can make some good progress over the weekend, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll have some more fiction to share next week. Happy Friday!
